NOROSHI | A whole-house stay in Arida, Wakayama

Four hundred years ago, Tokugawa Yorinobu, founder of the Kishu domain, moved two fishing couples to Yabitsu and set them to watch the sea. From the station on thehill above, smoke carried word inland, hilltop by hilltop, to Wakayama Castle.

The village began with four people. NOROSHI takes its name, and its work, fromthat smoke.

So what would you do with a day here?

A base, not a destination

An old fishing-village house above the water, with a main hall big enough for everyone and four bedrooms upstairs. Two of them look out to the sea.

Spend the day out in the Yabitsu area and come back to the hall at night. That is what the house is set up for.

Every room has air conditioning. The building is old. The comfort is not.

Questions people ask
